Many health minded parents and aromatherapy practitioners have discovered that there are several of the many essential oils that they just can't live without. Each unique in their qualities, they offer a strong foundation for anyone getting started using essential oils in their home or practice. I keep the following 5 essential oils on hand for the many benefits they deliver. Of course, these are just my favorites...you probably have your favorites too! It is really was hard to pick!
Lavender is considered the "universal oil" in aromatherapy circles. A very calming scent, lavender treats burns and stings, cuts and bruises, and is also effective for combating allergies, cancer, cold sores, dandruff, menstrual cramps and insomnia. I diffuse Lavender and Cedarwood for a lovely yoga blend.
Roman chamomile is so named because Roman centurions and gladiators used it to clear their mind and imbue themselves with co...
5 Most Effective Uses for Wild Orange Essential Oil
What is Wild Orange Essential Oil? Well, the clinical term is...Citrus sinensis, just FYI so that I sound really smart. ;)
Why should you choose the wild version over the regular one when using this oil in your aromatherapy practice?
Because it delivers stronger benefits and is used to treat a longer list of mental and physical issues than "regular" orange oil.
First off, take a look at some of the properties wild orange essential oil boasts:
Natural Digestive Support
Natural UV protectant
Anti-aging protection for skin
While it is usually used to treat digestive problems or for immunity system support, wild orange essential oil is excellent for promoting skin health, lightening dark spots, correcting imperfections and offering ample doses of Vitamin C. It is also known...
If you are reading this, it probably means that you were surfing the net looking for information about "Detox" or "Cleanse" or some other sort of program that you could research. It probably means that you are looking to make some sort of a change in your life.
Let me tell you a little story about one of my first attempts at making a lifestyle change...
About 16 years ago, I was a new mom, working full-time with a husband and a house. You can imagine that I was pretty busy. One day, after reading an article about Detoxing and the benefits of it, I decided that my husband I should go on this "detox" for 7 Days. I told him about it, and he thought that it sounded pretty funny and really goofy, however, always up to a challenge ("Anything you can do, I can do better....") he agreed. Since we were eating a lot of cereal those days for dinner, I thought, "I can use a grill, and I can make salad"! That was the extent of my skills those days, but would cove...
It's always been a bit of a mystery to me why some people drink enough water daily without giving it much thought, while others that I coach will increase their water intake for about a month, and then if I don't stay on them... seem to fall of the wagon. I come up with water recipes for them, and I have many clients who add the Lemon Essential Oil or Wild Orange to their water to keep it tasty and easier to drink, but still....some people just won't stick with it.
Let's talk about this. Let's discuss why drinking at least half of your body weight in ounces per day is so important for your health. Many of us can learn to drink water while participating in the 21-Day Cleanse.
It is the first habit we learn when going through Health Coaching, learning Clean Eating strategies or participating in a detox.
If you do not drink enough, sweat too much, or have severe diarrhea, you can become dehydrated. Mild to moderate dehydration i...
Even the most committed dieters can slowly start to put on weight. especially those in the over 40 crowd. Sometimes it takes a reboot from what we know and the habits that we perform daily to get back on track and lose the extra unwanted pounds. I decided to come up with a list of great weight loss tips and found that Kimberly Snyder, Certified Nutritionist, has written a great Top 12 Weight Loss Tips that I can work to emulate in my own life, and find it easy enough for even the beginner trying to lose weight and get healthy. She starts the list by answering a question from a fan...

Holistic approaches to anti-aging are not new. For thousands of years people in Eastern cultures have viewed lifestyle and self-care to be essential in facilitating a healthy aging process.
Today, it is very much worth your while to consider holistic approaches for various reasons. Unlike conventional anti-aging approaches, which involve the use of anti-aging creams, serums, or even drastic measures such as cosmetic surgery, holistic approaches aim to target and heal the problem that is at the root of the aging process. This contrasts with traditional anti-aging approaches, in which it is usually just the symptoms of the aging process that are treated.
This is consistent with the approach holistic medicine takes towards treating any illness, and that is to evaluate the entire and treat the entire person, including body, mind, and spirit.
Basically, holistic approaches to anti-aging involve slowing down the repercussions of aging in the human body by a...
Do you drink a lot of water? Have you tried to drink water...keeping that water bottle filled at your desk, bringing in the car, only to drop off again? There are many benefits to drinking water, the most promising, being the detox benefits.
I drink as much water as possible everyday. It is recommended that a person drink at least half of their body weight in ounces every day. For example, if you are a 140 pound female, you should try to consume 75 ounces per day. I weigh about 118 pounds and drink probably 80-100 ounces of water every day. You are probably thinking that is crazy, but this is Habit "numero uno" that all of my clients establish before making any other significant changes in their behaviors.
Since I have started drinking so much water I have noticed some beneficial improvements in my health.
Most of these can be attributed to just staying super-hydrated.
The Paleo diet is all the rage now and some men swear by it for weight loss and building lean muscle mass. We follow a basic paleo-styled diet when we go through the "21-Day Cleanse". In a lot of ways, I think it is just a highly vegetarian diet with some meat thrown in!
But, Is it an optimal choice for women?
Does it give women the nutrients they need to reach their weight loss goals without lacking a vital source of vitamins and minerals?
It is no secret that men have a different bodily makeup than women and so it's only fair that each diet be valued with gender in mind. The Paleo diet does have some disadvantages but as a whole, it is a very good choice for women.
Restricts Sugar - Sugar is evil for women. It's one of our biggest cravings but wreaks havoc on our hormones. Itís also really easy to over eat sugar causing unnecessary weight gain. Being overweight causes excess estrogen. Excess estrogen makes women crazy wo...
Genetically Modified Foods, or GMO's, have really been scrutinized lately. We all know why they exist. Corporations are looking to make a “better” product that they can make cheaper than the competition. They take their crops into their little labs and genetically engineer them to withstand many of the common crop problems today or other reasons.
The problem is, these foods aren't natural, and recent studies show that whatever scientists are doing behind the scenes are affecting our bodies. One such way directly involves women and their hormones.
Most Common Genetically Modified Foods
Corn: Almost 85% of corn grown in the U.S. is genetically modified.
Soy is the most heavily modified food in the United States modified to have higher levels of oleic acid, an omega-9 fatty acid that may lower bad cholesterol, and is naturally found in olive oil.
Alfalfa that is genetically engineered is made so to resist the herbicide Roundup.
I love when Spring arrives and I can venture out to the local farmer's market! I am always looking for the cleanest varieties of produce that I can find. It is often suggested that eating seasonally is a great idea, but it is rarely explained why. Look at any restaurant menu and they will proudly boast about their “Seasonal Fruits” dessert, or go in to any supermarket and wonder at their seasonal vegetables. Local, seasonal foods are all around us, and yet so many of us remain ignorant as to the real reasons why we should care. When it comes to making food choices, there are generally 3 main reasons to pick one food over another. Is it cheaper? Does it taste better? Is it healthier? Let’s consider local, seasonal foods under those 3 headings.
Save Money at the Local Farmer's Market
Is it Cheaper?
By its very nature, seasonal foods are cheaper than foods out of season. The reasons for this are simple; when something is in season, there is ple...
