Are you as confused as I am on the ever-changing health trends? A few years back, we were told to cut back on salt. Then we were told to eat a "low fat" diet, with skim milk, low fat cheese, reduced fat cookies and consuming tons of chicken to replace that evil red meat! Around that same time, we were all buying New Balance running shoes and running for miles and miles to get fit. And most recently, we have been told to cut back on sugar because researchers linked it to obesity, type-2 diabetes and a whole wealth of other health problems.
Is this just the next health trend that will be "de-bunked" in the next several years as wrong and potentially harmful? I really doubt it, I think this one is here to stay.
In an effort to persuade clients and"21-Day Cleanse"participants to really consider adopting the idea of "Clean Eating"we are going to discuss the pitfalls of sugar (again, I know).
It's always been a bit of a mystery to me why some people drink enough water daily without giving it much thought, while others that I coach will increase their water intake for about a month, and then if I don't stay on them... seem to fall of the wagon. I come up with water recipes for them, and I have many clients who add the Lemon Essential Oil or Wild Orange to their water to keep it tasty and easier to drink, but still....some people just won't stick with it.
Let's talk about this. Let's discuss why drinking at least half of your body weight in ounces per day is so important for your health. Many of us can learn to drink water while participating in the 21-Day Cleanse.
It is the first habit we learn when going through Health Coaching, learning Clean Eating strategies or participating in a detox.
If you do not drink enough, sweat too much, or have severe diarrhea, you can become dehydrated. Mild to moderate dehydration i...

Turmeric is a commonly used spice that originates from the Curcuma plant. We most likely know it for its spiciness and use in dishes such as curry.
However, Turmeric has been extensively used within Chinese and Indian cultures, including as an anti-inflammatory. Turmeric is best consumed in its pure sense, rather than as a component of curry powder or other spices.
However, the Western world has been slow to notice the health benefits of turmeric, though turmeric can provide many health benefits, some of which are outlined below.
Turmeric has long been used for its anti-inflammatory properties in Eastern cultures; this helps the body to fight infection and repair itself. It is the oil that the turmeric provides that has the scientifically proven anti-inflammatory capabilities.
Curcumin, the oil derived from turmeric, has been studied in numerous experiments, and has been shown to be equally as effective as typical anti-inf...
Having kids calls for a busy, hectic lifestyle. When your children are very small, it seems you are changing diapers every few minutes. When they are bigger, you are running them here and there, acting as their personal taxi service. At home and at work, children make for very little free time for parents.
Even so, you understand how important it is to stay physically active. The mental and physical rewards from regular exercise are many, and when you stay active you set a healthy example for your children. Practice the following 5 fitness tips for busy parents, and you will always have time for health and wellness in your family.
1. Prioritize Physical Fitness
You must make exercise a priority, especially when you are busy all the time. As a parent, you are constantly "putting out fires" and dealing with problems that arise. That means that if you simply wait for spare time to develop, it may never happen. You have to prioritize being healthy, mak...
When talking about your core muscles, you might think that the ultimate goal is to make them as strong as possible, just like with working out any other muscle. You also might be hearing people talk about core stability, but might not know exactly what the term means. While the two concepts are related by the same muscle group, the specifics are actually very different. Find out what makes core strength so separate from core stability, how they affect your body and what you can do to modify your workouts to focus on your core more effectively.
What is core strength?
As its name suggests, core strength refers to the actual strength of your core muscles. For many people, the first thing that comes to mind is the abs, and the ideal workout move to strengthen them are sit-ups.
While having strong core muscles can help with various actions, such as your jumps and throws in different sports, excessive strength training for the core eventually leads to a pl...

Vitamin K2: The Missing Nutrient For Heart And Bone Health
Most people have heard about vitamin K but few know that it comes in two forms: Vitamin K1 and Vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 is one of the vitamins that researchers are finding out are great for your bone health and for your heart. It is as important as taking calcium when it comes to improving bone health.
Research has found a link between vitamin K2 and calcium. It turns out that without the addition of vitamin K2 in your diet or as a supplement, you can’t regulate calcium levels and bone health suffers. In addition, those who have decreased levels of vitamin K2 in the diet put themselves at a greater risk of atherosclerosis and heart disease.
People who have insufficient calcium in their bones get osteoporosis and have elevated amounts of calcium in the arteries instead. Vitamin K2 can turn this around.
Information on vitamin K has been around for a long time and the current dietary recommendations by the US FDA have been rel...
Holistic approaches to anti-aging are not new. For thousands of years people in Eastern cultures have viewed lifestyle and self-care to be essential in facilitating a healthy aging process.
Today, it is very much worth your while to consider holistic approaches for various reasons. Unlike conventional anti-aging approaches, which involve the use of anti-aging creams, serums, or even drastic measures such as cosmetic surgery, holistic approaches aim to target and heal the problem that is at the root of the aging process. This contrasts with traditional anti-aging approaches, in which it is usually just the symptoms of the aging process that are treated.
This is consistent with the approach holistic medicine takes towards treating any illness, and that is to evaluate the entire and treat the entire person, including body, mind, and spirit.
Basically, holistic approaches to anti-aging involve slowing down the repercussions of aging in the human body by a...
