If you are reading this, it probably means that you were surfing the net looking for information about "Detox" or "Cleanse" or some other sort of program that you could research. It probably means that you are looking to make some sort of a change in your life.
Let me tell you a little story about one of my first attempts at making a lifestyle change...
About 16 years ago, I was a new mom, working full-time with a husband and a house. You can imagine that I was pretty busy. One day, after reading an article about Detoxing and the benefits of it, I decided that my husband I should go on this "detox" for 7 Days. I told him about it, and he thought that it sounded pretty funny and really goofy, however, always up to a challenge ("Anything you can do, I can do better....") he agreed. Since we were eating a lot of cereal those days for dinner, I thought, "I can use a grill, and I can make salad"! That was the extent of my skills those days, but would cover our evening meals sufficiently.
The only thing I knew from my article was that we would eliminate: dairy, soy, wheat, alcohol, coffee and sugar. This was just enough information to make me dangerous and I couldn't even get my head around what I would be eating for seven days.
So, I rushed out to the store to buy a million lemons, some almond milk (which was not very good, it is much improved these days), meat and salad fixin's. Monday morning rolled around, and as usual, we were rushing around to get everyone dressed, fed and out the door. My husband loves this next part...
He walked into the kitchen on the first day of our "Detox" week, and there I was standing at the kitchen counter, guzzling my coffee with creamer, and scarfing down a bagel with cream cheese (our little boy had to have breakfast, right?). I'm pretty sure I had a little cream cheese on the corner of my mouth when our eyes met that morning.
Long story short, this was funny and a bit humiliating and he has never let me live it down! He always reminds me of "time when you ate a bagel and cream cheese on the first day of our detox" whenever I get too "Food Nazi" with our three boys. He even likes to tell me that I have a reputation around town and school as a "Food Nazi". I deny, deny, deny these accusations!
I tell you this Detox Disaster story for 2 reason:
1. Why did I feel like I needed a Detox in the first place?
That little voice inside my head was telling me that I need to make some changes. I was always tiered, wired, over-caffeinated, broken out, plugged up and just felt like I always needed a nap. Something was not right, and I needed to get to the bottom of it! I needed a Diet Coke everyday at 3:00 just to avoid becoming George Costanza and sleeping under my desk.
2. I had no direction, planning skills, professional support, consistency and any real education around why I felt so bad all the time, and how a detox could really help me. I was flying almost completely on instincts. Looking back, that is good enough, because that first Detox Disaster paved the way for my current lifestyle.
Did I start Clean Eating and running Marathons all that first year? Of course not! I raised my 3 sons, improved slowly, changing on habit at a time, eventually feeling compelled to compete in Triathlons, and change my career into one which helped others in the Health and Fitness biz.

"What is a Cleanse, exactly" "What is a Detox"?
First, I'll tell you what it is NOT...it is NOT a Rapid Weight Loss Diet!
We are not going to juice, or drink weird potions. We are going to drink a ton of water, adding fresh squeezed, alkalizing lemon and/or Lemon Essential Oils drops added throughout the day if desired.
We are going to EAT FOOD....and LOT'S OF IT!
Foods that are on the Approved list:
Free range chicken
Wild-caught fish or seafood
Nuts and Seeds
Vegetables - focus on dark leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, celery, cucumber, carrots, kale, zucchini
Some Fruit - berries, lemons, green apples
Starchy carbs - Make friends with the Sweet Potato! Spaghetti squash
Coconut Oil, Olive oil, Grapeseed Oil, Avocado Oil and other Healthy Fats
Apple Cider Vinegar (and other limited vinegars)
Fruit juice for naturally sweetening only
Foods that we will Eliminate:
Sugar - including maple syrup, honey, agave, coconut sugar and stuff to make "Clean Treats"
Coffee - Creates acidity, and we are trying to alkalize
